Longniddry
A game of two halves
First commissioned in the early 20th century of Wemyss and designed by Harry Colt, Longniddry is the closest seaside course to Edinburgh. It's also been shaped by no fewer four distinguished golf architects in its lifespan, including James Braid.
The course
This well-conditioned course blends parkland and links-style play - with some holes heavily flanked by trees, before opening out into windswept links. Along the way, expect tricky bunkers, thick gorse and fiendish rough to complicate play.
The clubhouse
At the end of a satisfying day's golfing, it's good to know that Longniddry's traditional, stone-style clubhouse is very close to the 18th - including their well-stocked bar. Having a post-round sundowner feels inevitable...
