Nature

Down to earth

Whether you’re a keen bird-spotter, a sea life enthusiast or a flower fanatic, there’s an experience in East Lothian to go wild for.

The Scottish Seabird Centre

This award-winning attraction and educational centre draws flocks of visitors year-round. Take in the spectacular views of Bass Rock, or enjoy a boat trip around the local islands for a fantastic day out for all the family — they even welcome well-behaved dogs!

Aberlady Bay

Closer to base is Aberlady Bay, a Local Nature Reserve thriving with wildlife and birds. Wait for low tide to see the submarines entrenched in its sands or bring your binoculars and spot the local lapwings, redshanks and blackcaps that make the reserve their home.

Gardens Galore

Further afield, you can stop and smell the flowers at one of the walled gardens at Amisfield or Archerfield or go wild for the woolly alpacas at the John Muir Alpaca Centre in Dunbar.
